I. SVRI Online Event, 28 September - 20 October: Researcher Trauma, Safety and Sexual Violence Research

The SVRI would like to invite you to join us online from 28 September to 23 October to participate in our first online moderated discussion on Researcher Trauma, Safety and Sexual Violence Research. Researching with sexual violence survivors can be traumatic. The effects of being indirect witnesses of trauma and abuse can result in secondary traumatic stress or vicarious trauma. Recognising the impact of researching sensitive topics is important in developing strategies to support the research team to identify, manage and where possible prevent vicarious trauma. Through this discussion we are seeking your help to enable us to look after ourselves better while undertaking sexual violence research and assist those researchers who follow us.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr Shazneen Commissariat Limjerwala and Dr Jan Coles. Shazneen is an independent consultant based in Mumbai, India. As a trained psychotherapist, she enhances her research in sexual violence against women by applying her therapy skills. Her PhD at Lancaster University, UK explored the experiences of sexual violence victims in Gujarat. She is currently engaged promoting the awareness of sexual violence. Jan is a family medicine practitioner from Melbourne Australia. Her research investigates the impact of childhood sexual violence on early mothering, occupational violence and child abuse prevention.

These online discussions will form the basis for a researcher safety briefing paper and an online questionnaire. To participate in this discussion join the SVRI Online Discussion Forum at: http://www.svri.org/forums/ <http://www.svri.org/forums/> and click on the discussion entitled: Researcher Trauma, Safety and Sexual Violence Research. We look forward to meeting you online!
