While a lot has been achieved in some parameters, much needs to be done in others. Similarly, some States have done amazingly well in women's upliftment, but others lag behind.

New Initiative Responds to Gender-Based Violence as Part of Global HIV Response, US Department of State Media Note, 14 March 2012<http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/03/185777.htm>: On March 14 at the White House, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues Melanne Verveer and U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Ambassador Eric Goosby announced a joint initiative to provide $4.65 million in small grants to grassroots organizations to address gender-based violence (GBV) issues.

Nepal: Women Survive Violence with Help from Rural Nyaya Health Clinic, Women News Network, 12 March 2012<http://womennewsnetwork.net/2012/03/12/nepal-women-survive-violence-nyayahealth-clinic/>: Unconscious and badly bruised, she was a typical case of domestic violence. We accepted her into our hospital. But even before she had regained full consciousness she left the hospital to rescue her husband who had been kept behind the bars for beating her up.

This workshop covers how to determine whether sexual behaviors in children are age-appropriate and how to respond to behaviors that are outside of what you would expect to see in children of various ages. This workshop is particularly appropriate for professionals who work with families or children, including child care providers, home visitors, teachers, and staff of youth serving organizations. The focus is on pre-pubescent children.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) will convene a 2-day workshop to explore the contagion of violence and how it can be prevented and eventually ended.
