Advocates Praise FBI Expansion of Rape Definition, The American Independent, 11 January 2012 <http://www.americanindependent.com/208590/advocates-praise-fbi-expansion-of-rape-definition> : The FBI's decision last week to revise the definition of rape for its annual Uniform Crime Reporting Program is being praised by sexual assault advocates and the LGBT community.

Regional Association for Women's Studies Launched, IBN Live, 10 January 2012 <http://ibnlive.in.com/generalnewsfeed/news/regional-association-for-womens-studies-launched/948481.html> : A Regional Association for Women's Studies has been launched, with as many as 26 Women's Studies Centres in South India joining it.

Rape more common than smoking in the US, Prevent-Connect, 6 January 2012 <http://preventconnect.org/2012/01/rape-more-common-than-smoking-in-the-us/> : Today an article published in on Significance Magazine's web site, a publication of  the American Statistical Association and Royal Statistical Society, compared these rates to those of smoking - 18.3% of women over 18 reported being sexual assaulted in their lifetime while 17.4% of women reported smoking. Let consider this as we set health priorities.

The teenage bride's eyes were swollen nearly shut as she was wheeled into the hospital seven months after her arranged marriage. 

Gambians Told Female Circumcision is Not Religious Obligation-Paper, TrustLaw, 3 January 2012 <http://www.trust.org/trustlaw/news/gambians-told-female-circumcision-is-not-religious-obligation-paper/#.TwRiGODM3VE.twitter> : A number of religious leaders in Gambia have called for a ban on female genital mutilation (FGM) which is widely seen as an obligation for Muslim women in the country, Gambia's Daily Observer newspaper reports.
