I. SVRI member request: Call for volunteer translators

Are you fluent in English and another language? Translate advocacy materials for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign!

The 16 Days Campaign is seeking volunteer translators for the Theme Announcement (available here<http://16dayscwgl.rutgers.edu/2014-campaign/2014-theme-announcement>) and for other advocacy materials in the 16 Days Campaign "Take Action Kit". For an example of what to expect, you can take a look at last year's Kits, available online in Word and PDF format (available here<http://16dayscwgl.rutgers.edu/previous-years/2013-campaign/2013-take-action-kit>). You can support activists' work to end gender-based violence and militarism for a peaceful tomorrow by using your translation skills. Catholic church backs national redress scheme for child sexual abuse victims, The Guardian, 12 August 2014<http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/13/catholic-church-backs-national-redress-scheme-child-sexual-abuse-victims>: The Catholic church has joined calls for a national redress scheme for victims of child sexual abuse, with mandatory participation by the institutions concerned, but wants to retain some of its controversial gag orders to prevent victims suing.

Solar lanterns diminish gender-based violence, bring other benefits to displaced in Somalia, International Organization for Migration Press Room, 8 August 2014<http://www.iom.int/cms/en/sites/iom/home/news-and-views/press-briefing-notes/pbn-2014b/pbn-listing/solar-lanterns-diminish-gender-b.html>: IOM has donated 3,300 solar lanterns to reach 20,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Somalia. The recipients are now at less risk of gender-based violence (GBV), their children will be able to do homework after school, and they may be able to generate more income if their shops and small businesses can operate at night.

Little hope of justice for Nepal¡¯s war-time rape survivors, IRIN News, 31 July 2014<http://www.irinnews.org/report/100423/little-hope-of-justice-for-nepal-s-war-time-rape-survivors>: For several weeks in July, veteran Nepali women¡¯s rights activist Renu Rajbhandari picketed in front of the Constituent Assembly, Nepal¡¯s legislative body in Kathmandu, demanding amendment of the country¡¯s rape laws.

¡°Empowering women ¨C Empowering humanity: Picture it!¡±<http://beijing20.unwomen.org/en/in-focus/girl-child>: UN Women<http://www.unwomen.org/> launched a year-long campaign<http://beijing20.unwomen.org/en/in-focus/girl-child> in the context of the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. The #Beijing20 campaign is running under the title: ¡°Empowering women ¨C Empowering H=humanity: Picture it!¡±<http://beijing20.unwomen.org/en/in-focus/girl-child> and features monthly mini-campaigns, each focusing on a subtheme of gender equality. UN Women is now rolling out the third mini-campaign for August, focusing on girls and young women.
