I. SVRI member request: What Works to Prevent Violence survey request

Are you interested in cutting-edge knowledge on what works to prevent violence against women and girls? What Works to Prevent Violence is a DFID flagship programme that aims to build knowledge on what strategies and interventions can prevent men's violence against women and girls, working across 28 countries in Africa, South Asia and Middle East.

The global programme is administered by a consortium led by the Medical Research Council (MRC) of South Africa, in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UNDP and Social Development Direct. Through supporting innovation and rigorous scientific research we will be building the most cutting-edge knowledge on what works to prevent violence against women and girls. You are the potential users of this information so we want to learn more about your needs and what information and tools would be most meaningful for you. It is heartening that the Australian government - and indeed our UN Women partners, the Wallabies - are once again on the right side of history.

Ending impunity for femicide across Latin America, OHCHR News and Events, 25 August 2014<http://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/EndingImpunityLAC.aspx#sthash.ZX3q7Ge1.dpuf>: The UN Human Rights Office in collaboration with UN Women has developed a Model Protocol to guide investigations and prosecutions launched in the wake of gender-based murders of women in Latin America.

School tries to heal the divide in northern Nigeria, IRIN News, 18 August 2014<http://www.irinnews.org/report/100507/school-tries-to-heal-the-divide-in-northern-nigeria>: The kidnapping of more than 200 girls from a secondary school in Chibok in northeastern Nigeria's Borno State in April by Boko Haram militants, and a so far unsuccessful high-profile campaign to free them, exemplifies the insecurity-driven education crisis in the area.

Half of Skid Row's homeless women have experienced sexual assault: Report, NBC Los Angeles, 9 August 2014<http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Half-of-Skid-Rows-Homeless-Women-Have-Experienced-Sexual-Assault-Report-270626461.html>: Homeless women on downtown Los Angeles' skid row are increasingly older and racial minorities, a report released this week found, and half of homeless women have experienced sexual assault.

III. Advocacy and awareness raising

Take Back the Tech!<https://www.takebackthetech.net/> The collaborative campaign works to reclaim information and communication technologies (ICT) to end violence against women (VAW). The campaign calls on all ICT users - especially women and girls - to take control of technology and strategically use any ICT platform at hand (mobile phones, instant messengers, blogs, websites, digital cameras, email, podcasts and more) for activism against gender-based violence. Feminist principles of the Internet. Developed at the Gender, Sexuality and the Internet meeting, 13-15 April 2014, Malaysia<http://www.genderit.org/articles/feminist-principles-internet>: The existing discourse around gender and the internet tends to focus on gender components lacking in policies that govern the internet, violations that take place as a result, and the need for increased women's participation in decision-making forums. In a bid to reframe the conversation, the meeting used a collaborative process to ask the question: 'As feminists, what kind of internet do we want, and what will it take for us to achieve it?'
