SVRI Special Update

Dear SVRI List Members,

Please take note of the following special events and announcements:

1. Reminder: SVRI Forum 2015 abstract submissions close 30 April 2015

The SVRI is hosting its 4th international conference, the SVRI Forum 2015: Innovation and intersections<http://www.svri.org/forum2015/index.htm> from 14 - 17 September at Spier 1692 Estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa. Please take note that abstract submissions for oral, poster and special sessions close on Thursday, 30 April.

Oral and poster presentations

Oral and poster presentations describe a research project, or intervention that talks to our theme; focuses on sexual, intimate partner and / or childhood violence; addresses key debates current in the field among different populations in different priority settings. The SVRI prioritises work being undertaken in low and middle income countries. To submit an abstract for a poster or oral presentation click here<http://www.svri.org/forum2015/abstract.htm>.

Special sessions

Special sessions are your opportunity to innovate and experiment with the SVRI Forum 2015 format. Possible sessions could include, for example, a seminar on a new topic, a session on intervention development, scale up, adaptation; a session for speed-networking; a seminar on different ways to present research and complex ideas. They are generally around 60 - 90 minutes in length, held in standard conference spaces and distinct from oral, poster or workshop tracks. The form of a special session is yours to design. To submit your abstracts click here<http://www.svri.org/forum2015/sessions.htm>.

3. Consultation: Global plan of action to strengthen the role of health systems in addressing violence, in particular against women and girls and against children
In May 2014, the World Health Assembly adopted a historic resolution (67.15) on Strengthening the role of the health systems in addressing violence, in particular against women and girls and against children. The resolution requests the WHO Director-General to develop a global plan of action to strengthen the role of the health systems in addressing interpersonal violence, in particular against women and girls and against children. The global plan of action will be finalized for consideration by the 69th World Health Assembly in May 2016.
We are now seeking stakeholders' inputs into the draft global plan of action. From the following link you can access the first discussion paper containing draft zero of the plan of action. Responses from individuals, organizations and/or consolidated responses from constituency groups are welcome.
The deadline for responses is 4 June 2015. Click here<http://www.who.int/topics/violence/interpersonal-violence-against-women-children/en/> for more information.
We are also embarking on a series of stakeholder consultations - a summary of opportunities to engage in the development of the global plan of action is included in the above web link.
The first ever WHO global plan of action on addressing violence, in particular against women and girls and against children, provides an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen the capacity of health systems to: provide comprehensive health services to survivors; support the implementation of prevention programmes; generate better evidence; and advocate for a stronger multisectoral response based on the public health evidence.
Your inputs are vital in ensuring a strong plan that can help countries to better deliver for women and children who are affected by and experiencing violence. We look forward to receiving your feedback.
