I.                CLOSING SOON: Call for proposals - SVRI and the World Bank Group's Development Marketplace for Innovation on GBV Prevention and Response

The SVRI on its own and in partnership with the World Bank Group has awarded more than $3.1 million to 28 research projects in 22 countries across the globe. This year, the SVRI and the World Bank Group are seeking proposals for innovative research and interventions or related activities that will contribute to the prevention and response of GBV in low and middle-income countries.

Deadline: 6 October 2017 at 11:59:59pm South African Standard Time (4:59:59pm EST). Late applications will not be accepted.

Human Rights Watch News, 5 October 2017<https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/10/05/central-african-republic-sexual-violence-weapon-war>: Armed groups in the Central African Republic have used rape and sexual slavery as a tactic of war across the country during nearly five years of conflict, Human Rights Watch said in a report released on 5 October.

Violence against women hurts Arab economies, UN says, Middle East Eye, 5 October 2017<http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/violence-against-women-hurts-arab-economies-un-says-498082960>:  The United Nations called on Arab countries on 5 October, to calculate the economic cost of violence against women, in a bid to promote policy reform in a region where the issue is taboo.

Horrific accounts of sexual violence against Rohingya 'just tip of the iceberg' - UN agency, UN News Centre, 28 September 2017<http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=57764#.WdYn-luCzIU>: Warning that the horrific accounts of rape and sexual assault against Rohingya women and girls fleeing unrest in Myanmar could be "just the tip of the iceberg," the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) underscored the need to ensure that such violence is prevented and called for additional resources so that it can reach all those in need of assistance.
